"This house ROCKS"
...not our words, but those of a young visitor.
As you arrive at number 16 along the picturesque high street of Tereglio, you may reflect that it is a simple village house, in a modest village. But the charm and beauty of the place are breath-taking. Tereglio is less than 10 km drive from the valley road, but you will soon sense the qualities of the environment as you drive up. The first section follows the Fegana valley, but even in the valley bottom you will catch striking views of the Appennines ahead and glimpses of the two hilltop villages on your left, Vitiana and Tereglio. Once the road crosses the river and turns the first of ten hairpin bends needed to ascend, the views go on getting better and better. Everyone who arrives at Tereglio is charmed by the walk through the winding high street. The occasional views out across the valleys are magnificent, but every section of the village is picturesque and beautifully clean and orderly. People are welcoming and friendly: here, as in all the communities of the Garfagnana, it is customary to greet everybody you pass in the street. It is like stepping back to an imaginary past, free of motor vehicles and stress.

Though modest, the house is welcoming and convenient. There are three bedrooms, a kitchen a sittingroom, and two balconies overlooking the unspoilt Suricchiana valley. One balcony is off the kitchen, and I love to have breakfast there, watching the birds swooping after insects, and the ever-changing light on the wooded hillsides opposite.
